Solar Urja through Localization for Sustainability program

Lighting Asia/India conducted a half-day session with 45 of IIT Bombay’s SoULS (Solar Urja through Localization for Sustainability) program female entrepreneurs based in districts around Bodh Gaya, Bihar on May 8, 2018.

SoULS aims to work with local communities to assemble, distribute and service solar lamps.

The Lighting Asia/India team introduced the Lighting Global test methods for quality assurance and then handed over to Associate companies to introduce their organisations and products. Representatives from d.light, SunKing, Dharma Life and ONergy had entrepreneurs excited about the quality and types of products they were manufacturing and distributing.

Following the introductions, the entrepreneurs were broken into groups and given time to interact with each of the companies and were able to ask more detailed questions about product performance, distribution opportunities and pricing.

There was positive feedback with the entrepreneurs and were very keen to learn more about distribution opportunities. The Associate companies also perceived this as an interesting channel for further exploration.
