Launch of The IFC Supported TERI Solar Lighting Laboratory in New Delhi

February 18, 2014, New Delhi : The Lighting Asia/India program has partnered with TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute) to provide support in the upgrade and expansion of its solar lighting laboratory by designing it in line with international best practices, equipping the laboratory with the latest technology and equipment, increasing the number of testing benches and providing training and other technical support. The laboratory is located in TERI University’s New Delhi campus and is also supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

This lab was inaugurated on February 18, 2014 and is a first of its kind in South Asia, to provide a platform for quality testing of off grid lighting products, adhering to the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC) standards. IEC is the world’s leading organization for the preparation and publication of International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.

The laboratory can test products in accordance with methods specified in the IEC framework for evaluating off-grid lighting products. These test methods were jointly developed by IFC and the World Bank prior to adoption by IEC under Technical Specifications 62257-9-5.
