IFC Lighting Asia/India builds laboratory capacity for testing of solar lighting products

May 25, 2013, New Delhi: In the run up to the opening of India’s first solar lighting testing laboratory, which can test according to the International Electro-technical Committee standards, IFC Lighting Asia/India gave technical training to select management and technicians at The Energy and Resources Institute. The learning sessions were a culmination of a series of initiatives, designed to build and expand India’s capacity for quality assurance testing of solar lighting products according to IEC standards. The TERI lab has been equipped with the latest state of the art technology and the training was conducted by the Lighting Global technical team.

Combination of classroom sessions and hands-on lab training sessions provided a detailed overview of the quality assurance testing process, underlying principles and extensive laboratory training and demonstrations. The facility, will allow Indian manufacturers to test their products in India itself, according to the IFC/ World Bank Lighting Global Quality Testing Methodology.

The lab, once fully functional, will be amongst a handful of labs all over the world to test LED based off-grid lighting products, in line with IEC methods.
