As part of IFC’s drive towards providing high quality, affordable and durable solar lighting
solutions to off-grid households, a two-day training program entitled “Micro-financing for Solar
Lighting Products” was organized in district Nawabshah (Sindh) for the representatives of Shah
Sachal Sami Foundation (SSSF), a community-based organization which also deals in micro-
The training was designed and implemented by Empowerment thru Creative Integration (ECI)
Pvt. Limited with financial support from Lighting Pakistan. The training program covered areas
such as significance of micro-financing for solar lighting products, social, economic and
environmental benefits of solar lighting products for low-income households, systematic lending
process of providing solar products to potential households or individuals, use of appropriate
and low-cost marketing and sales promotion techniques and preparing a monthly or quarterly
plan for setting their targets.
A total of 24 participants benefited from the training. “I learnt very relevant information about
solar products and its benefits as compared to other products.” said one of the participants of
the training program Allah Jurioyo, during the evaluation.
In collaboration with certified manufacturers of solar energy products, Lighting Pakistan program
seeks to benefit at least 1.5 million people, given the fact that 144 million population in the
country is either unserved (off-grid) or underserved (with over 12 hours of load-shedding daily).
