IFC in collaboration with Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company (PMIC) and Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) is organizing a conference entitled “Solar Off-Grid: Opportunities Within A Billion Dollar Industry”.

The conference brings together key stakeholders and partners to deliberate on opportunities and potentials in the Solar Off-Grid industry in a context where Millions of people live either in bad-grid or off-grid areas struggling with poor quality and expensive alternative energy sources. More importantly, the event is also aimed at providing a platform for manufacturers, distributors, retailers and financial institutions to forge synergies and increase the availability of high quality solar lighting solutions, particularly for bad-grid or off-grid areas. The initiative by IFC, PMIC and AEDB is expected to help alleviate the country’s pressing energy crisis, while increasing awareness of quality solar energy products and enabling the creation of sustainable solar supply chains in rural Pakistan to reach the last-mile. Speakers at the event will shed light on strategies to enhance consumer awareness for sustainable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly solution to Pakistan’s energy needs. A panel discussion will further unpack the possibilities of financing solar home systems through a value chain approach. The conference will attract more than 250 delegates from private sector, government departments, financial institutions, donor community and the media. As a result of this conference, it is expected that key players in the industry will join hands to create an enabling environment for the private sector to remove market entry barriers, provide market intelligence, foster linkages and raise consumer awareness on modern solar lighting products and systems across the country.
